This will involve discussion of the problem, the patient's medical history and family history of breast cancers. There is a physical examination and usually this is followed by further investigations, which are carried out at the same clinic visit. These normally take the form of a mammogram and or ultrasound investigation. Occasionally, patients will need a biopsy taken of lump in the breast, which is performed under local anaesthetic. The results of the mammogram/ultrasound are available at the initial visit, but if a biopsy is required, then these results take approximately 1 week to return from the labs and a follow up visit will be required.
